Sayings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers 1

The fourth century saw an explosion of the numbers of hermits and monks going to live in the Egyptian desert. These Desert Fathers and Mothers left a great variety of pithy stories and sayings that still are of benefit to us today. I hope to post one a week on a Friday from now. 

This week’s:

Abba (Father) Anthony said to Abba Poemen,  “This is the great work of each person: always take the blame for your own sins before God and to expect temptation to your last breath.”
