About me

I am a minister of the Word in the Uniting Church in Australia, in placement in Centenary Uniting Church, a suburban congregation in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I’m not from around here!—I was born in Yorkshire, and came here as a schoolboy in 1965 (a ‘10-pound Pom’!). I’m starting to get used to the place…

Originally, I trained in medicine, graduating in 1976, and spent a few years as a psychiatric registrar. I am married to Karen, and we have four great kids—a daughter living in Chile, a son who has just gone to Europe & Britain for a while, and two sons still at home.

I chaired the Uniting Church’s National Working Group on Worship for 15 years, and recently stood down while remaining part of the group. I was an editor of Uniting in Worship 2, published in 2005. In March 2010 I was awarded a PhD for the thesis Presbyteral Rites of Ordination, 1977-1995: The Uniting Church in Australia ‘within the faith and unity of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church’.
