I cheated, just for you

Yesterday I downloaded Advent08, an iPhone/iPod Touch app which provides daily devotions for Advent.

Not supposed to open it till Advent starts, which as you all know is 30 November this year.

But I thought I should look at the first day in advance, so I could decide whether it’s worth telling both my readers about.

Well, I think it’ll be worth it. It has enough substance to sustain, which is what I was looking for. Also a nice background. Could have done with a bit more proof reading, but hey, I know that can be a problem, so that’s no criticism.

And for $1.99, it works out at less than 7.7 cents per day!

Of course, if you still have to get your iPhone or iPod Touch, it’s a tad more expensive…

iPod Touch? iPhone? (2)

On 1 October I talked about the decision to get an iPod Touch rather than an iPhone, and said:

First thing: I’m not disappointed one little bit with my iPod Touch. Second thing: next time, I’ll get an iPhone.

(Sorry about quoting myself…)

Well, I now—much earlier than expected—have an iPhone. Why? Several reasons:

It was precipitated by my lovely daughter’s imminent visit from Spain; she had her iPod stolen in Prague (oh, how I wish I could name drop places as well as she can!) and was lamenting the loss of music in her life. I suddenly realised that if I give her my iPod Touch, I could get…

And it was also made possible by getting the iPhone on a $49 + $8 pm plan, not much more than the old Nokia. And youngest son’s mobile had stopped working, so I could move the Nokia on!

Am I glad I got an iPhone? In a word, Yes.

Reasons:
At the recent synod I could keep up with emails even though I wasn’t on wi-fi. Excellent!
I was able to navigate on the Sunshine Coast using the maps. Great!
I can hear the music through the car speakers while driving. Very good!

Now, I wait for the bill…

BibleXpress

Hmmm…

I wrote the other day that BibleXpress doesn’t have the capacity to email the notes I make. I wuz wrong! I found out how to do it over coffee today. (But why do you need to press the Edit button to get to the email part of the app?) Still, I did it—thunk some thoughts, and emailed myself.

I like BibleXpress even more!

iPod touch? iPhone?

Something from the shallow end, having preached recently on simplicity… Oh, the contradictions! (But what’s a Mac fan to do?)

It was my birthday last July, as it seems to be each year. I told my longsuffering wife I didn’t want anything, but I was wrong.

I wanted an iPhone. And it was being released in Oz around the time of my birthday. Perfect.

So I got hold of a magazine on the iPhone, and read. One article weighed up the pros and cons, and asked whether you really want an iPhone, or an iPod Touch.

I decided I wanted an iPod Touch, and that’s what I got. I’ve been weighing up the pros and cons ever since.

First thing: I’m not disappointed one little bit with my iPod Touch. Second thing: next time, I’ll get an iPhone.
